How We Survive in the Mountains: Climbing for Pomegranates & Fishing for Dinner

Far from civilization, we harvest wild pomegranates on dangerous mountain trails, make homemade pomegranate juice, and cook crispy fried fish in our remote mountain village. Here we cook with firewood, build our own tandoors and clay ovens, and use ingredients we grow ourselves. There is no electricity or gas — just fire, hands, and family. This is not a show or a staged video — this is how we really live. If you support our journey, like and subscribe. Beautiful mountain scenery hides a difficult journey. Grandpa climbs steep, slippery trails to gather red and pale wild pomegranates, collecting mountain barberries among the rocks before carrying the harvest home. Together, they process the pomegranates in a long wooden trough, crushing the fruit with rubber boots using a traditional method. The extracted juice is then boiled over a wood fire, while Grandma prepares homemade barberry jam from the small mountain berries. Later, Grandpa descends to a rocky mountain river, carefully crossing slippery stones to catch carp and grass carp with a net. Grandma cleans the fresh fish and fries it in a pan over firewood. Pomegranate seeds and their homemade pomegranate juice are added to the sizzling fish, creating a richly browned meal full of sweet and tart flavors. After the hard work of harvesting, fishing, and traditional outdoor cooking, they share dinner in their mountain village in Azerbaijan. The day ends with tea and homemade barberry jam.
